Officially known as the EDSF (Earth Defense Space Force) the star blazers fleet has a nice mix of ship types, all of
them seen in the show at one time or another. Almost every ship in this fleet has turreted primaries, and at least one special weapon,
a plasma cannon. This fleet can also have lots of fighters. Unfortunately these ships have a tendancy to go BOOM a lot (just like in the show)
due to their expensive armour and low hull defense factors. This fleet is essentially a world war II navy in space, and if you've ever seen the
minatures, it just reinforces the point. |

AndromedaThe Andromeda is essentially an upgunned and uparmoured battleship. It has two
double sized plasma cannons, one extra turret, a larger fighter contingent, and extra armour. All this
extra mass places it in the dreadnaught class. |
Borodino ClassThe main ship of the line in the starblazers fleet. It has a single, double sized
plasma cannon, three turrets for good all around primary power, and fighters for a little extra punch in
attack or defense. Its main weakness is the low defense rating. However, they can be surprisingly
powerful in numbers. |
Lexington ClassThis hybrid class is actually a hasty adaptation of the original battleship design,
to allow for greater fighter capacity. This mix of battleship and carrier allows for greater attack
options. |
Hood ClassAlthough described as a battle cruiser, it's low mass places this ship
in the heavy cruiser class. It's a general purpose ship, used for fleet escort, and advance screening. It
has low primary power (for a heavy cruiser), good secondaries, and a single plasma cannon. |
Konigsberg ClassAlmost as big as the heavy cruiser, this light cruiser's superior
sensors and all around capabilities makes this ship perfect for long range patrol and escort duties.
While normally used as extra anti-fighter defence, they can also be used for independant
actions. |
Airone ClassAlthough called a frigate, they have nearly the same mass as the
destroyer. Mounting many small guns and a single plasma cannon each, they are normally deployed
as fast, close attack squadrons. |
Gearing ClassThese destroyers carry a multitude of small, rapid firing guns making
them deadly close attack squadrons or powerful anti-fighter defence screens. |

The real star of this fleet should be, of course, the Yamato. However, I haven't included it since I imagine everyone
will have their own idea of what this unique ship should look like, and by leaving it out, everyone can create their own
favourite version.
I usually use this fleet in fleet scale, using Musashi's EDSF models, which match other fleet scale models nicely. However,
this hides one fact. Compared to other genres, star blazer ships should be SMALL. Compared with these other ships, EDSF
battleships should really be the size of cruisers, the cruisers the size of destroyers, etc. But if you can ignore this inconsistancy,
and use them as described instead, they make a nice fleet. |
