DBA 4 AWI
There's a story behind this rule variant, as I didn't actually start out with the intention of creating it. I had promised a friend that I'd show him how to play DBA the next time we were both down at our local wargaming club. But when the day arrived, I discovered I had forgotten to bring my DBA armies. I didn't want to disappoint him and a quick once around the club resulted in only one pair of armies I could borrow - 28mm Napoleonic armies based 4 figures per 50mm x 50mm square base. Well anything is better than nothing, so I put 2 bases together to make a rectangular 'element' and called them bows. We had a good time, and he was happy he'd finally been able to try DBA.

I had such a good time, I starting thinking about building some 15mm Napoleonic armies so I could do it again. (I prefer playing DBA in 15mm). I thought it was a shame that I had so many painted 15mm AWI figures half rebased sitting in a box waiting for me to find a rule set I actually liked. If they'd been Napoleonics I'd be all set. Well, at this point the two ideas collided and DBA 4 AWI was born. Instead of putting them on 40mm bases, I thought the GW 'cavalry' bases were just begging to be used. The result was a bit bigger than they were supposed to be (50mm), but I could fit 10 figures on each, with the result that the element looked far more like a unit than they usually did.

The figures are mostly Frontier, with the cavalry being Essex. You can click on the thumbnails below to see larger pictures.
